Privacy Statement RET App

Introduction

When you install and use the RET app on your mobile device, RET processes your personal data through the app. Some personal data is necessary for the app to function properly, while you can choose whether or not to provide other personal data in the app. Below, we indicate which personal data we use and for what purposes when you use the RET app.

Purpose of Processing

RET processes your personal data to ensure the app functions optimally, supporting you in your journey and allowing you to use all the app's functionalities. This includes: providing travel advice, sending push notifications about delays and changes to your planned journey, purchasing travel products within the app, and adding products to your Debit Card. These can be both personalized and anonymous products.

Overview of Processed personal data

RET processes the following personal data when you use the app:

  • If you use our app, we use your IP address to identify the device.
  • In addition, you can choose to enable your location data. This data is not stored by RET, but is used solely by the app on your phone.
  • When you purchase products in the app, we do not process your payment information, as the payment for a travel product is handled entirely outside the app by an external payment service provider.
  • If you decide to create a MijnRET account through the app, RET processes at minimum the following information: first name, last name, email address, and password. Additionally, you can enter several optional personal details, including postal code + house number and date of birth.
  • If you log into your MijnRET account through the app, you have the option to add a selected product to your debit card and/or credit card and public transport card (payment method). RET then processes information related to the payment method. Please note, this does not involve payment information, as previously mentioned.
  • RET offers both personalized and anonymous products in the app. If you choose to add a personalized product to your payment method, RET will request your name, date of birth, and/or passport photo based on the requirements of the personalized product. These are not stored by RET but are forwarded to the central administration system of Translink.

Legal Basis for Processing

The legal basis for processing your personal data is consent. You give consent to RET to process personal data when you install and start using the app on your mobile device. As mentioned, the processing of some personal data is necessary to offer you certain functionalities in the app, but for some services, you can decide whether you want RET to process your personal data, such as:

  • Yes, I want to receive notifications about new Mijn RET services.
  • Yes, I want to receive the monthly email newsletter.
  • Yes, I want to receive tips and offers from RET.
  • RET Business: Stay informed about mobility services, white papers, and events.

In your Mijn RET account, you can withdraw consent for some services at any time, after which RET will no longer process the respective personal data for that purpose.

Retention Period

We only retain your personal data as long as strictly necessary. For instance, we retain the personal data you provide when creating a MijnRET account as long as the account is active. We also retain your personal data when you purchase a personalized travel product via the app. Other data is stored on your mobile phone so that you do not have to reconfigure all settings the next time you use the app.

With who do we share your personal data?

RET does not sell personal data to other parties. Sometimes, RET must provide your personal data to other parties, such as the Tax Authorities under legislation or in legal proceedings or proceedings before the Public Transport Disputes Committee to support our position. These other parties are responsible for the use and processing of the received personal data. RET provides no more data than necessary to these third parties.

We use various third-party services to ensure you can use the app optimally, such as:

  • Receiving travel advice via the app.
  • Purchasing a barcode ticket.
  • Linking a proposition to the payment card.

Additionally, we use an app analysis program to help us improve our service and make it more user-friendly. Crash analysis also helps optimize and make the app more user-friendly. RET always sets the most privacy-friendly settings by default, resulting in minimal impact on your privacy. Therefore, according to privacy laws, no separate consent is required.

Use of Processors

For parties processing personal data on behalf of RET, RET always has a Processing Agreement, contractually specifying how the Processor should handle your data. Moreover, the contract includes  certain demands from the RET regarding the technical and organizational security level to ensure your data is always sufficiently protected.
