Welcome to the Hook of Holland

Here you can find information about travelling from Hook of Holland with public transport.

From Stena Line to public transport

Public transport in Rotterdam is provided by RET. With an extensive network of metro, tram and bus you can explore the whole city. The metro offers an excellent connection between Hoek van Holland Haven and the city center of Rotterdam, but also with the train network to travel to a destination elsewhere in the Netherlands.

When you exit the Stena Line hall you see the brand new metro station across the street.

The Stena Line Ferry arrives and departs from station Hoek van Holland Haven. Beurs is in the middle of the city centre of Rotterdam. For a connection to the train network (NS), travel to station Schiedam Centrum.

You can see all RET metrolines below (click to expand)

Types of tickets

The easiest way to pay for your trip is to check in and out with your debit card, credit card or mobile device. You do not need to activate anything.

  1. Take the card you want to travel with out of your wallet when checking in and out. Or use your debit card on your mobile device.
  2. Hold your card or mobile device against the card reader when checking in.
  3. Check out with the same card.

Check this page for more information and participating banks and credit card companies.

If you want to buy a ticket, use the RET App, the ticket machines at the station or go to the Tourist Information Office next to the station in Hoek van Holland Haven.
You can get three types of tickets in the machines:

  • RET 2 hours - gives access to the entire RET network for two hours. Validated at first use.
  • RET 1 day - gives access to the entire RET network for the whole day. Validated at first use.
  • Tourist day ticket - gives access to entire South Holland area with busses, trams and metro’s (no trains) for a whole day. Validated at first use.

For prices check the RET App or our ticket website

Use the RET 2 hours ticket if you are only traveling to the center or a train station, or a RET 1 day ticket if you want to use public transport in Rotterdam for the rest of the day.

Here you can find more on the Tourist day ticket.

RET app

You can also buy a barcode ticket within the RET app. This allows you to purchase a ticket on the ferry and use it immediately after docking. You can purchase a ticket up to 24 hours in advance. In the app you can purchase the RET 2 hours and RET 1 day tickets. Find out more about the RET app here.

Always check in and out with your ticket. Most stations have gates that open when you check in or out, some stations have check-in kiosks on the platform.

Plan your trip with RET

It is often useful to plan your journey in advance. Download the RET App in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and find your nearest stop, current departure times, to plan your journey or to look up information about diversions. You can also plan your trip on the RET website www.ret.nl/en.

Travel to England

If you are traveling back to England, don't forget to buy a ticket in time from a machine at the subway station. You can also do this the day before; the ticket only becomes valid at the time of check-in.

Allow enough time to arrive at the Stena Line departure hall before the gates close. Metroline B in the direction of Hoek van Holland Haven runs every 20 minutes. Plan your trip back to Hoek van Holland Haven here.
